Job Summary:
The Environmental Lawyer will be responsible for providing legal counsel and representation to clients concerning environmental law matters. This role involves handling a wide range of legal issues related to environmental regulations, compliance, litigation, and policy development. The Environmental Lawyer will work closely with clients, government agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to environmental laws and to advocate for sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on environmental law matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
2. Conduct research and analysis on environmental laws, regulations, and policies to ensure accurate and up-to-date legal advice.
3. Collaborate with clients to develop strategies for environmental compliance and risk mitigation.
4. Review and negotiate contracts, permits, and agreements related to environmental matters, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
5. Represent clients in environmental litigation cases, including administrative hearings, negotiations, and court proceedings.
6. Conduct due diligence reviews of environmental issues in corporate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
8. Stay updated on emerging environmental laws and regulations and provide recommendations to clients accordingly.
9. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as engineers, scientists, and consultants, to assess and address environmental risks and impacts.
10. Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and settlements with regulatory agencies and other parties.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
3. Minimum [X] years of experience practicing environmental law, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
4. In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
